This trip is the best one hands down.
Boston has always been a city that eluded me in the past, but it finally came to an end. I planned this trip on a thursday night on a whim as we were heading into a long weekend. I decided to ask my friends if they wanted to come, expecting them to give me any excuse in the book not to come. However, they responded with a yes and within seconds and off we went the next day.
On our way, we stopped in New Haven to eat some Frank Pepe Pizza and explored the area some more. Little Italy and the Mexican food trucks right off the highway were some of the highlights in our brief 30 minutes in the city. Connecticut is a place where I could see myself retiring someday (no offense to anyone there). All of the buildings, and even the rest stops, were built as beach house style where the exterior is white with large windows. The state is relatively small so within an hour of driving we were out of the state and in the state of Massachusetts!
Our AirBNB was located on the outskirts of Boston, in a city called Quincy. I don't want to judge the place at all but our AirBNB must've been in the sketchiest neighborhood because there was a party full of people next door and the odor of weed was apparent as we stepped out of the car. We quickly rushed into the house to avoid the cold, and headed up the stairs to our room. LOL this room though. We requested 3 beds, and as we walk in, it's one bed with a changing light chandelier. Initially we thought there must've been a mistake but there was a small door in the corner of the room hidden from sight. Inside the door was a narrow staircase leading what looked like to be an attic. You know, us being adventurous people, we go up the stairs and just see two air mattresses in the middle of the floor. I started laughing because this looked straight out of a horror movie, and the fact the girls had to sleep there that night, that made me laugh even harder. At this point, it's about 1:30 am and I pass out on the bed downstairs.
We all wake up around 9 and are just chilling in the kitchen. This kitchen is one of my favorite kitchens because it was compact and efficient, yet there was still space for an island where people could sit and eat. My friends are making coffee that they found in some of the cabinets and we're about to head out to explore the city! Finally! As my friends go upstairs, I see the door open from the corner and an elderly gentleman appears and stares at me as I bite into some leftover over Frank Pepe. We made eye contact for seconds without any words, and then he just starts laughing. "Eating pizza for breakfast?" he utters as he is chuckling. He got me mid bite, of course. I nod my head, he laughs, and heads toward the bathroom as if we've been friends for years. Creepy, yet such a genuine interaction with a human was a refreshing change in my life. We quickly gathered our bags, packed into the car, and off we were going to the city..........
