This was not the first Eid that I spent away from home, but I sure missed the sense of celebrating the holiday with a community. I left my apartment at 5:45 am to reach the 6:30am prayer time up in the suburbs where I work. Although it was at hotel due to the amount of people expected, I felt as if this was the community I was raised in. There is a special feeling about seeing individuals so energized in the morning and spending the day with not only their immediate family, but also with people who are less fortunate. After work, I went to North Bowl with some of my friends to cap of this holiday and felt extremely happy.
Lesson: You don't need to travel across the country to make the best memories. There are people and places right next door that can provide that for you. All you have to do is reach out.
