The last time I was in Washington D.C, Bill Clinton was the president and I had a CD player with my favorite Green Day album. So it's been an extended period of time.
As expected, I planned this day excursion the prior night and FINALLY brought one of my closest friends with me. I am not exaggerating but Waleed and I have been talking about going somewhere outside of Philly for months, and today was the opportunity to do so. We hopped in my Kia and headed down I95 South with the sun gleaming down on us with no plan.
Once we got to the city, it was almost a matter against time (We had to go back to Philly to watch the Super Bowl). For record, I thought the National Mall was an actual shopping mall, so I was stunned when I saw open land stretching for miles on miles with the most iconic monuments in front of my eyes. In order to get around, we saw those electric scooters that are made for adventurous adults and zoom zoom we went! It was so much relief to be zipping through a city with no worries on my mind AT ALL.
We saw the Lincoln Memorial, White House, US Capitol Buildings, and somehow ended up in the heart of Chinatown in the midst of ridding our scooters on the street (pretty sure it's not legal). Overall the trip was a mere 5-6 hours, but it was something that I will cherish for the rest of my life. I'm always up for these spontaneous trips with people, but it's starting to take a toll on me sometimes. I need to start looking out for myself a bit more and get some rest.
